ARE YOU DISCERNING THE CALL TO PRIESTHOOD OR RELIGIOUS LIFE?

Dear Pastors, Parochial Vicars, Deacons, and Parish Staffs of the Low Desert Vicariate,
I hope this message finds you well! My name is Christopher Rodriguez and I am one of the Diocesan Seminarians for the Diocese of San Bernardino. As some of you may know, I am a Low Desert native, and my home parish is St. Francis of Assisi. I am one week shy of finishing my final year of philosophy, and this fall I will be leaving for Theology at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago.  I am reaching out on behalf of the Vocations Office, and Serra Clubs of our Diocese to share an exciting development that promises to significantly impact our shared mission of fostering vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. We are in the process of re-establishing the Serra Club within the Low Desert Vicariate, a movement that aims to unite our communities in the noble cause of supporting our future church leaders. As of May 2024, we are the only Vicariate in the Diocese of San Bernardino without a Serra Club, being a desert native it’s a great privilege to aid in helping re-establish our Low Desert Serra Club.  What is Serra International? Serra Club? Serra International is an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Founded in 1935, it boasts a global network of Serra Clubs that provide spiritual, financial, and moral support to priests, seminarians, religious sisters, and brothers. Serra International has become a beacon of hope for those discerning their call to serve the Church.  Vicariate Level Serra Clubs play a crucial role in nurturing vocations within local communities. They provide a platform for like-minded individuals passionate about supporting vocations to come together, share ideas, and actively contribute to the growth of the Church. By establishing a new Serra Club, we can create a strong support network that will positively impact the future of vocations in our low desert area. - Through various programs and activities, the re-established Serra Club, in unity with the other vicariates, will aim to create an environment where young individuals are encouraged and supported in discerning their call to the priesthood or religious life. - By organizing fundraising events, mentorship programs, and spiritual support groups, the Low Desert Serra Club will also provide the necessary resources to help seminarians and religious aspirants flourish in their formation journey.  - The Low Desert Serra Club will also actively collaborate with local parishes, and schools to raise awareness about vocations, organize vocation fairs, invite speakers, and provide resources to inspire young people to consider a vocation to serve the Church. You might be asking yourself, this all sounds great who will get all of these great things done? This is where you as Pastors, Parochial Vicars, Deacons, and Parish Staffs come into play. Re-establishing our Low Desert Serra Club is not a single-Parish affair, but rather a vicariate level effort. The goal from our Vocations Office and our Diocesan Serra Clubs, is to ensure that every Catholic church within our jurisdiction is actively involved in this vital mission. We believe that by uniting our efforts, we can create a robust support network for those called to serve in the priesthood or religious life. We kindly ask for your support in promoting the Serra Club within your parish communities. By encouraging key parishioners from each parish to join, you will be playing a crucial role in securing the future of our Church and ensuring that those called to serve have the support they need to respond to God’s call with confidence. On Saturday, June 15th at 9:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi’s (La Quinta) Parish Hall, the President of the Serra Clubs in our Diocese, along with members from other Diocesan Serra Clubs, will be hosting an informational meeting for all those who are interested in joining Serra Club. In this email I have attached flyers and brochures for this meeting and for more information about Serra Club in general.  I truly believe that re-establishing this new Serra Club will bring immense value to our community, inspire vocations, and strengthen our Church as a whole. I kindly request your support, cooperation, and participation in making this initiative a reality. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the future of Vocations in our Diocese. Thank you for taking the time to read this email and for your consideration. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Blessings and Thanks for all that you do! Please pray for me, and all of our Diocesan Seminarians, know that I am praying for you! Your Brother in Christ, Christopher Rodriguez Seminarian - The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino St. Junipero Serra House of Formation 12725 Oriole Ave, Grand Terrace, CA
